Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG

Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG

After a couple of leaked images made their way onto the Web a few weeks ago, Mercedes-Benz has released images and details of its 2011 CL63 AMG.

As with most AMG treatments, the styling changes are slight, but include a more aggressive front fascia, side skirts and prominent quad exhaust outlets.

Despite its 63 designation, the 2011 CL63 AMG will be swapping out its 6.2-liter V8 for the automaker’s new 5.5-liter bi-turbo unit. Standard power is 536 horsepower and 590 lb-ft. of torque, but those seeking even more from their ultra-luxury sports coupe will want to option up to the AMG Performance Package. Power in that configuration is up to 563 horsepower, while torque tops out a stump-pulling 664 lb-ft. Regardless of performance level, the 5.5-liter V8 is mated to a seven-speed SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7 automatic transmission with three driving modes and a rev-matching function.

Amazingly, Mercedes-Benz says that fuel consumption has decreased 27 percent, while CO2 emissions are down 30 percent. Look for a top speed of an electronically-limited 155 mph in standard form (186 mph with the upgraded package) and a 0-60 sprint of 4.4 seconds for the standard CL63 and 4.3 seconds for the AMG Performance Package model.

Look for the CL63 AMG to debut at this fall’s Paris Motor Show followed by a market launch in November in North America.
